What is a lead magnet anyway?

As you generate more traffic through your website you will want to make sure that those visitors are captured as potential leads and are driven through your sales funnel. To do this we use something called a lead magnet

A lead magnet is something you offer your web visitor for free in exchange for their email address. This builds up your email list with prospective clients that you can begin to turn into warm leads. You can then use email marketing campaigns to turn those prospects into paying clients. Sounds easy!

    Your goal is for your lead magnet to reach its intended target audience and then generate a sale. Task number one is to decide who this is and what the end goal is. For eg. post pregnant mums looking to lose their tums. What would you consider a success for this client? You have to give away true value to your audience for them to buy in.

      You need to attract potential leads with offers that help achieve their final goals for success.

      OFFER THEM SOMETHING THEY CANNOT POSSIBLY REFUSE! What motivates your current clients? What services have they asked for? What draws clients to you and your website? What motivates them to click?

      • Provide professional and expert advice. Be specific so that you can provide a detailed solution. This really helps to sell your authority and expertise. Don’t give away the same info you can find in the first few blogs to be found at the top of search engines. Your clients already have this!

      •  Leave your audience hanging! You need to be able to offer enough advice on your chosen topic to draw their interest and click through but leave out enough so they come back for more!

      • You have to stand out!  Your content has to be unique to stand out from your competition. Don’t churn out age-old advice they have heard before, for free!  Target a specific niche, offer resources to help solve the problem; free apps and tools for staying motivated through the cold winter months.

      No client is downloading your offer unless they think it is going to give them an immediate benefit. Is it good enough to sell? If it is, your prospect is likely to be highly motivated to click.

      A lead magnet offering “washboard abs in 30 days” is all very well. Ultimately, we all want one of those for the beach. What about “Serve an ace everytime” or “2 weeks to a better Butterfly”. Find out what your prospects want and offer them a little taste of what’s to come. Offer a free trial session to improve squat technique and give away a free branded water bottle.

      Your first lead magnet goal is to grab your web visitors attention and get them to download your golden offerings. So you MUST sell it with a great HEADLINE. 

      An AWESOME headline is essential when your visitor has to make one more click to gain access to your life changing offer. It must contain the desired goal, a short timeframe and draw them in emotionally to take action.

      Use emotional adjectives:

      • Effortless
      • Painstaking
      • Fun
      • Free
      • Incredible
      • Essential
      • Absolute
      • Strange

      If you’re going to do a list  be original. For example, consider the following:

      • Reasons
      • Principles
      • Facts
      • Lessons
      • Ideas
      • Ways
      • Secrets
      • Tricks

      WHAT, WHY, HOW, WHEN. These are the trigger words I would use. I typically use “why” and “how” the most, because I’m often trying to persuade or enable someone. Typically, you’ll use either a trigger word or a number. Rarely does it sound good to do both.hese headings.

      Try this formula


      Here’s a simple headline-writing formula:

      Number or Trigger word + Adjective + Keyword + Promise

      Example: Take the subject “cycling power.” You could write a headline entitled, “How to improve your power” or “Why use block training?”

      Or you could apply this formula and make it: “10 Unbelievable Ways You Can Increase Your Cycle Power ”


      Lead magnets do work! However be sure to offer high-quality downloads to those that bite. Poor content will waste your hard work and actually cause your new web visitors not to return. Using this advice to develop creative content will attract the clients you want and keep them coming back.
